Nursing and Quality Directorate - Infection Prevention and Control Team
Team Profile
The team comprises of four nurses with a combined 67 years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). This experience is from a variety of clinical settings including general nursing, intensive care, respiratory, mental health, community, learning disability, social care, estates and facilities, primary care, and commissioning. Having a range of backgrounds and experience provides transferability and diversity in the approach to todays challenges in this field.
The team provides day to day assurance and oversight to the Chief Nurse/Director Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC).
We find ourselves in exciting times of change as we transition, in July 2022, into an Integrated Care System (ICS). IPC will sit within the Strategic Commissioning stream, reporting to the Integrated Care Board (ICB). We will work alongside system partners including Public Health for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in the local authority and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) focussing on improving population health outcomes through the vision and delivery of the IPC strategy. Collaborative working will promote sustainability of quality improvement.
“Good infection prevention (including cleanliness) is essential to ensure that people who use health and social care services receive safe and effective care. Effective prevention and control of infection must be part of everyday practice and be applied consistently by everyone.” The Health and Social Care Act 2008. The Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance (DH, 2015).
The team is committed to the promotion of safe, high quality patient focused care. Each member brings a wide range of professional skills to enhance the delivery of infection prevention control across the ICS.
