Our Priorities

Our Priorities

Our vision as an ICS is to work together for healthier futures. By working together, as one integrated system, we are in a unique position to make significant positive changes to the lives of all our local people.

We will do this by providing great healthcare and by tackling issues within the wider environment that can impact on our communities’ ability to live healthy, happy lives – these are often referred to as ‘the wider determinants of health’.

This is why we have agreed the following five prioritiy objectives. Collectively they give us a shared focus to drive positive changes from birth and through each life phase that our local residents go through.

We are an anchor system that intentionally enhances social value for our communities

These priority objectives will help us to meet our strategic goals, including our goal to reduce health inequalities and to improve population health by giving our local people the tools and knowledge they need to take control of their health and wellbeing. We are currently developing a single strategy and plan that will demonstrate how we intend to deliver against these priorities and objectives. This strategy and plan will be published on this page in due course.

Reduce health inequalities

Health inequalities are unfair, avoidable differences in people’s access to, and experience of, health and care based on their circumstances and characteristics. Research shows that factors like your gender identity, your ethnicity and where you live can all impact your ability to access health care, your life expectancy, and the likelihood that you face significant health issues in your life.

As an ICS we want to tackle these health inequalities, ensuring that our health and care system is fair and equitable for all of our communities.

Create a system of opportunity

We want to create an environment where everyone has the best opportunities to thrive and achieve their potential.

This starts with our own staff – giving all of our staff across the ICS the tools and opportunities to progress and grow regardless of their age, gender, race, sexuality or disabilities. By supporting our staff to be the best they can be, in turn we will also be able to offer our communities the best possible health and care, as well as creating new career opportunities for a wider cross section of our community who may not have considered a job in the health and care sector before.

Give people more control over their health and wellbeing

We will empower our communities to take control of their own health and wellbeing by providing the tools and skills they need to make healthy decisions, to stay as well as possible and to manage ill health well. When people require health or care services, we will actively involve them in decisions around their health and wellbeing.

Deliver world-class services enabled by research & innovation

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is home to fantastic research institutes, world-leading educational establishments, and excellent businesses at the forefront of health and care innovation. We will harness this exceptional capability to deliver world-class services across our area.

Be environmentally and financially sustainable with a resilient workforce

We will maximise the use of our fixed budget and minimise our impact on the environment, through excellent strategic planning and partnership working. We recognise that our workforce is our greatest asset, so throughout our work as an ICS we will continue to train and upskill our employees so that our people are resilient in the face of significant challenges.
