Our NHS services are under significant pressure...
Not too late to get vaccinated
The local NHS are reminding people that there is still time to get their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
We know that across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, flu or COVID-19 increases over the festive season, adding to the pressures on the health system locally.
Dr Fiona Head, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB and a local GP, said:
“If you’re eligible for your flu or COVID-19 vaccination but haven’t yet taken up the opportunity to get vaccinated, I would encourage you to book your vaccination in as soon as possible.
“We know that both flu and COVID-19 are still circulating in our local communities right now, and vaccinations are your best protection against the worst effects of these illnesses. We are still running walk in vaccination clinics across our area, and many of our local pharmacies are offering these important vaccinations too. You can visit www.thevaccinators.co.uk to find out where you can get your vaccination or book online via the National Booking Service.”
People who are eligible for a free flu vaccination include people aged 50 and over, people who are pregnant and those with certain health conditions who are more likely to get severe infections.
For COVID-19 vaccinations, everyone aged 65 and over is eligible, as are those who are at increased risk due to a health condition or medical treatment, those who are pregnant, people aged over 16 who are a paid or unpaid carer as well as frontline health or social care workers.
Dr Head added:
“There are five simple steps people can follow to stay well this winter. Book your vaccinations, stock up your medicine cabinets on the essential items, such as paracetamol, make sure you’ve ordered your prescriptions in time, download the NHS app with contains a wealth of advice and information, and if you think you need urgent medical advice call or visit NHS 111. These simple steps will help you and your family to stay well this winter.”
