Our NHS services are under significant pressure...
St Neots blood pressure events
Two blood pressure events in St Neots earlier in September helped nearly 100 people find out their blood pressure, helping them to learn about high blood pressure and how to get local help.
As part of Know Your Numbers Week, St Neots Integrated Neighbourhood, part of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS) held two events encouraging local people to come along and have their blood pressure taken, get help to understand their readings and signposted to available health and wellbeing services if needed. Integrated Neighbourhoods are made up of partners across health and social care, local authorities, voluntary sector, community groups and more.
Around one in three adults in the UK have high blood pressure and it can cause an extra strain on blood vessels, heart and other organs. Additionally, it can increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening health conditions, such as heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, kidney disease and vascular dementia.
Dr Claire Murphy, a local GP and Clinical Director for St Neots Integrated Neighbourhood, said “We’re delighted so many local people came along and get their blood pressure checked last week. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get it tested, it’s quick and easy and it could save your life.
“If you’ve not made it along to one of our events and you’re over 40, local community pharmacies or your GP practice can take your blood pressure for you.”
