Winter vaccine roll out begins
Care home residents across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough will start to be offered their COVID-19 and flu vaccinations from today (11 September) as the local NHS starts their winter vaccinations programme.
As the NHS starts to roll out its winter vaccinations campaign, residents in care homes and people who are housebound will be the first to be offered their COVID-19 and flu vaccinations, protecting those at greatest risk this winter. The vaccination programme was brought forward after experts identified the emergence of a new covid variant.
Dr Fiona Head, Medical Director at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB, part of the local Integrated Care System, said, “During the winter months, respiratory diseases including the flu and COVID-19 can spread fast which is why I’m pleased we’re started to vaccinate the most vulnerable people from today, ensuring they are protected before winter arrives.
“For those who’ve had a COVID-19 or flu vaccine previously, even if it’s on many occasions, it’s still important to get a vaccination as viruses changes each year and immunity decreases over time.”
From 18 September other eligible groups will be invited for their vaccine booster and across the county and NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough are working hard to reach as many eligible people as possible, to ensure they get this extra protection against flu and covid, well ahead of winter due to the risk of the new covid variant.
From next week children between the ages of 2-17 will also be able to receive their flu vaccinations and parents are urged to fill out the necessary consent forms to get their child or teenager protected. The most convenient way to protect one’s child is through the nasal flu vaccine.
