Home for Christmas
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS) is encouraging local people to help their loved ones come home before the holidays.
Health and care teams are working around the clock to make sure people who need to be in hospital over the holidays are as comfortable as possible. But some people who are currently in hospital could go home with the right support in place, allowing them to be closer to their loved ones and support networks over the festive season.
People whose family or friends are currently in hospital can take some simple steps to help them come home once they’re ready to leave. This includes preparing the home of the person you care about by making sure their house is warm and clean, and by stocking up on essentials like food, drinks, and medicine. You can also help by either offering the person you care for a ride home from the hospital, or by arranging transport, and by bringing clean, comfortable clothing to the hospital so that they’ve got something ready to go.
Carol Anderson, Chief Nurse at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, part of the ICS, said:
If someone you care about is currently in hospital, please think about what you could do to support them to come home before Christmas – whether that’s by offering to drive them home, stocking up their home with medicines and food, or making sure their house is clean and warm.
We’d like to thank everyone who will help us get their loved ones home– allowing them to make a safe recovery in the comfort of their home whilst also supporting us to make more beds available for those who need them most.
