Industrial action update
Local health and care leaders are urging people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to be prepared for disruption to NHS services during this week’s Consultants’ strikes, which are taking place ahead of the bank holiday weekend.
Consultant doctors are taking 48 hours of continuous strike action from 07:00 on Thursday 24 August until 07:00 on Saturday 26 August 2023.
Dr Fiona Head, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, said: “It is crucial that those who need urgent medical assistance, especially in an emergency or life-threatening situation, come forward to receive the right care.
“The NHS is still available to you and your family during this time. If it is an emergency, or a life-threatening situation, you must still dial 999. However, if you need medical help or advice, or are unsure if you should go to hospital, then please visit NHS 111 online first.”
During this time, emergency care will continue to be provided, prioritising life-threatening, critical care, neonatal care, and trauma services. This means routine appointments may be significantly impacted. If the NHS has not contacted you, please attend your appointment as planned. The NHS will let you know if your appointment needs to be rescheduled due to strike action.
