Time to Get Boosted

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough COVID-19 and Flu Vaccination Campaign Underway
This year’s local flu vaccine and COVID-19 autumn booster programme has commenced, and the NHS is reminding people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to come forward when invited to do so.
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS) and Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust continue to work together to ensure as many eligible people as possible are vaccinated in any of the region’s GP surgeries, vaccination centres, buses, or pharmacists.
This winter, it is anticipated that there will be more cases of the flu than previous years, as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will help protect people at risk of these serious illnesses, and their complications.
Dr Fiona Head, Medical Director at Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICS, said: “Getting your flu jab and a COVID booster this autumn is the best possible protection for you and your family. That’s why we’re encouraging everybody to take up the opportunity when offered.
“As we know, during the winter months, respiratory diseases including the flu and COVID-19 can spread fast, within families, schools, and the wider community. This means that people who are most vulnerable may become seriously ill and we want to prevent that from happening.
“Getting your flu jab and a COVID booster will set you up for the best possible protection for you, your family and the wider community.”
People eligible for the COVID-19 booster include people over 65 and some who are at higher risk, including those who live in care homes, are immunosuppressed and health and social care staff. Those who care for vulnerable individuals and families who live with individuals with weakened immune systems are also eligible to receive the COVID-19 booster.
There is no need to contact your GP directly, as the NHS will invite those eligible for both or either of the vaccines, allowing them to directly book their appointment via the National Booking Service’s website: https://www.nhs.uk/book-a-coronavirus-vaccination or dialling 119.
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICS is also reminding those who are yet to receive their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, to do so. To find your nearest walk-in vaccine centre, log onto www.thevaccinators.co.uk .
